"I needed something — needed to feel alive, I needed to feel accomplishment. When I started I had no idea how long it was gonna take. I just put my max effort in every day.”
How true that we are anxious because survival is too easy. When we are challenged to exist both mentally and physically, and we are victorious-we are fulfilled. Great interview and will absolutely follow Dan on his next adventure. Thank you both for the inspiration.
Really cool, really inspiring. Love the quote: “After Enlightenment: chop wood, carry water.” So true. When I used to hire writers, I’d tell them that sometimes we’d get to do cool, sexy work, but sometimes we just had to chop wood. That’s life. And that’s mountains too--you get all that beauty and the highs, but a lot of it is just suffering, just trudging uphill, step after step. If you don’t enjoy that, what my daughter and I call “the suffer,” then you’re missing out on a big part of it. Screw the technology. Leave it behind. Enjoy the climb.
