In a place perpetually without power, our go-to activity was a great game of cards by lanternlight.
What are Your Best Storm Survival Tips?
Anything from practical advice to unique ways to pass the time.
I'll be popping in throughout the day to answer. But don't be shy — if you're curious about a stranger's comment, ask them! I know a lot of you have cool knowledge to share.
I'm a big believer in old-fashioned books and a fireplace. Makes it seem sort of luxurious to be out of power, closed off from the socials. Also, if its a winter storm that's cut off the power, building outdoor igloos to save the freezer food is always good. If you don't have bears in the area, anyway...

I think it's a neat idea for all of us to practice.
Also, it's now occurring to me how localized certain natural disasters could be. Where I grew up, the water table was too high for in-ground power lines, so they went down a lot.
Now, I live someplace outages are super rare. I almost miss that experience when watching a storm....

That's a great tip! For people who have detached garages, you can also store stuff there. It won't be freezer cold, but fridge cold.
You can also fill a top loading washing machine with ice and use it as an ice box

Actually, maybe a few hours a day! So nice to unplug, esp. when you don’t have to.
Absolutely!
Yep, surviving the apocalypse is a subject nearly as popular these days as Outlaw Country. It's a unifying theme.
